Karachi Fashion Week is a completely integrated showcase, aimed at encouraging increased collaboration between the fashion design industry manufacturers. Its main aim is to uplift the fashion industry of Pakistan, and its approach is multifaceted. In a country where apparel manufacturing maintains world class quality and reputation, the aspect of fashion design has not yet been fully developed, in spite of the tremendous potential available. KFW seeks out and encourages promising young designers, to be part of this international showcase, gaining the opportunity to interact with and learn from working designers, as well as exposing their designs to markets with high potential.

By encouraging Pakistani designers to use local textiles and crafts in their designs, we actually help to boost the related industries as well. All of this combined creates a sustainable local fashion industry, constantly offering opportunities for future young designers, career growth options for existing designers, and building upon the success of the local textile and apparel industry for the benefits of all.

Ice Cream And Fashion

What have ice cream and fashion got to do with each other? You might not have heard about it, but in the Philippines, a recently concluded fashion show highlighted “angelic” creations inspired by one of the best comfort foods around the world – ice cream.

Dubbed “Heaven by Nestle Ice Cream presents Premier C,” the fashion show featured some of the most popular designers in the country. Those familiar with the Philippine fashion scene will recognize names such as Arnold Galang, Dita Sandico-Ong, Enrico Carado, Happy Andrada, Tina Daniac, Raoul Ramirez for ESAC, and Lyle Ibañez for ESAC Plus.

I have to say that Nestle does have some delectable ice cream flavors, and they chose their premium flavors to serve as the theme for the show: Belgian Bliss, Strawberry Dream, and Vanilla Secret. Obviously, Belgian Bliss is all about chocolate – as rich as you can get; Strawberry Dream greets your mouth with a burst of fruity flavor; and Vanilla Secret brings a new twist to the ordinary vanilla ice cream with caramel and almonds.

Pakistan Fashion Week Spring/ Summer 2010

Last week we had a chance to see the amazing creations at the China Fashion Week, and today we are getting a sneak peek at the Pakistani Spring/ Summer 2010 fashion week, which started on November 4th in Karachi, Pakistan. The organisers had to postpone the event twice due to security fears and the threat of ongoing militant violence. Nevertheless, the show must go on.

The looks above, randing from modern to very traditional, are by Pakistani designers Deepak Perwani, Zahid Khan, Adnan Pardesy, Pashmina Ahmed, Rizwan Beyg and Kash Hussain.
