A three game losing streak that culminated in a 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Skoda Xanthi last weekend has suddenly thrust Momcilo Vukotic’s Levadiakos team into relegation danger.
They will be desperate to see strike Brazilian striker Leonardo recapture the sort of goal-scoring form that has seen him net eight times this season, whilst the recent exploits of Patrick Dimbala will provide some encouragement as they prepare to host PAOK.
The Thessaloniki giants last week were effectively ruled out of the title race following a 3-0 loss away against Panathinaikos, continuing their poor record against the league’s ‘Big Three’ this season.Portuguese manager Fernando Santos might just hand new signing Lampros Choutos his debut as he looks to resurrect a career that promised so much but disappointed so many, whilst top-scorer Zlatan Muslimovic should start after having only been used as a substitute last round; Polish defender Miroslaw Sznaucner is sidelined through injury.
Panionios vs Ergotelis
Panionios suffered without Uruguyan stars Fabian Estoyanoff and Alavaro Recoba last week, as poor finishing saw them succumb to a 1-0 loss away to Aris that dealt a severe blow to their aspirations for European football next season.
Recoba remains sidelined as he recovers from a lengthy spell on the sidelines but Estoyanoff returns, the international having scored four times for his new club this season.
Ergotelis, on course to surpass all expectations and avoid relegation, appear to have lost the stunning form that saw them surge up the Greek Super League ladder at the beginning of the season.
It has been a difficult year for Nikos Karageorgiou’s men, who suffered a home loss to Iraklis last weekend, though they themselves are not without stars; rising Greek talent Vasilios Koutsianikoulis having impressed for the Cretans this season.
AEK Athens vs Thrasyvoulos
As many as seven AEK Athens players will be unavailable as the Greek giants chase European football against lowly Thrasyvoulos this weekend, a team who are all but condemned to relegation.
However, on their last outing to Fyli, AEK threw away a three-goal half-time lead against Sakis Tsiolis’ men, though that was under former manager Giorgios Donis.
He was succeeded by Dusan Bajevic, who has introduced discipline and a decent brand of football since his arrival earlier in the season, though the promotion of youth has not necessarily characterized the Serb’s rein.
A combination of injuries and suspensions may force him to hand first-team roles to some of the less reputable members of his squad, including the likes of Dimitris Koutroumanos and Greece international Vasilis Pliatsikas.
Yet even with a weakened squad, this is in theory a comfortable three points for the home side.
